Senate Passes SR 4, Celebrating 250th Anniversary of the U.S.

JUNEAU – In a powerful display of patriotism and commitment to our nation’s founding principles, the Alaska Senate today passed Senate Resolution 4 in a unanimous vote. This legislation recognizes and commemorates the upcoming 250th anniversary — the Semiquincentennial — of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence.
“The passage of SR 4 is a victory for historical truth and a vital reminder of the principles that bind us together,” said Senator Cathy Tilton (R -- Wasilla), the resolution’s primary sponsor.
“Preserving the future of our Republic begins in the classroom. We must equip the next generation with an unwavering understanding of the principles that make the United States a beacon of hope for the world.”
The legislation was sponsored by all members of the Senate Republican Caucus, signaling a unified front in honoring the "Great American Experiment."
SR 4 utilizes four actionable pillars to honor the anniversary – Commemorating the timeless values within our country’s founding documents, reaffirming the ideals of Federalism and the importance of a decentralized government, encouraging civic engagement and inspiring Alaskans to take an active role in the governance of their communities, along with urging Alaska’s schools to strengthen civics education so students understand the mechanics of our Constitutional Republic.
SR 4 is a simple resolution, meaning it requires no further action and is considered a “sense of the Senate.”
